# Workspaces

> Set up a workspace, invite your colleagues, and understand what they can access.

A **workspace** brings your people, AI workers, teams, billing, and usage together. If you belong to more than one, each has its own members, workers, and plan. You can switch between them without creating another account.

## Create or join a workspace

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose your workspace">
    To start a new one, open the workspace switcher beside the workspace name and select **Create workspace**. Enter a **workspace name**; a company website is optional.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Join an existing workspace">
    If someone invited you by email or shared an invite link, sign in and follow the invitation to join. You can also join with a confirmed company email address if an admin has enabled **Join by email domain** in **Settings > Workspace > General**. This joins you as **User Lite**; personal email providers are not eligible for domain joining.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The workspace switcher shows your **current workspace** and any others you belong to. Select another workspace to switch, or use **Create workspace** to start a new one. Owners and Admins can update workspace details and upload a custom logo under **Settings > Workspace > General**.

## Choose roles and invite people

**Owner** is the person who owns the workspace. **Admin** runs its members, billing, and settings and can hire specialist workers. Choose the other roles based on what someone needs to do:

| Role | What they can do |
| - | - |
| **User** | Has an assistant and can hire specialist workers for the workspace. |
| **User Lite** | Has an assistant and works with workers open to the whole workspace, but can't hire specialists. |
| **Guest** | Works only with workers they've been explicitly given access to; has no assistant. |

The Owner can also manage the workspace like an Admin. Roles are separate from a worker's manager permissions: access to a worker doesn't by itself make someone its manager.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Members">
    In the workspace you want to manage, go to **Settings > Workspace > Members** and select **Invite**. You need to be an Owner or Admin to invite members.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a role and invitation method">
    Select the person's role, then enter their email address to invite them directly. For **User**, **User Lite**, or **Guest**, you can instead create and share an invite link for that role. **Admin** invitations are by email only. Share links expire and can be revoked.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check pending invitations">
    Until someone joins, their email invitation appears under **Pending invitations** in **Members**. You can revoke it there if needed.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The **Members** roster shows when each person joined the workspace. Before removing a member or leaving the workspace, review the offboarding reassignment preview for workers, projects, teams, and scheduled tasks associated with that person. Check what will be reassigned before confirming. To invite an external collaborator, select the **Guest** role and grant access only to the intended workers or projects; Guest access does not open the rest of the workspace.

<Note>
  A workspace invitation adds someone to the workspace, not automatically to a team or a private worker. For team membership, open **Settings > Workspace > Teams** and add people who are already in this workspace. See [Teams](/account/teams) for sharing workers within a team.
</Note>

## Understand worker access

A worker's visibility determines whether everyone in the workspace can reach it. New hires default to **Whole workspace**; workers hired before the workspace rollout remain **Private**:

* **Whole workspace**: Members other than Guests can reach the worker without being added to a team. A Guest still needs explicit access.
* **Private**: Only the worker's owner and people granted access, such as through a team or co-manager assignment, can reach it. To share one, follow the worker-settings or team-directory steps in [Teams](/account/teams).

Owners and Admins can see each worker's visibility under **Settings > Workspace > Workers**. This inventory displays visibility; it is not a visibility editor. Worker access alone doesn't reveal someone else's individual conversations or give you manager permissions. See [Co-managers](/guides/co-managers) if a colleague needs to help manage a worker.

## Plans and usage belong to the workspace

Your workspace owns its workers, billing, and shared Work Credits; usage isn't a separate allowance for each person. You can add **unlimited members** with no per-seat charge. The included plan sizes are **Starter: 2 workers and 2,000 Work Credits** and **Business: 5 workers and 7,000 Work Credits**. A **15-day Business trial** at the included size starts without a card.

For current plan choices and billing changes, use **Settings > Workspace > Billing** (Owner or Admin). Check the options there before making changes; this guide isn't a pricing quote.

## If something looks missing

* **Can't join by domain?** Ask an admin whether **Join by email domain** is enabled for your confirmed company email domain. A personal-provider address won't qualify; request an invitation instead.
* **Can't see a worker?** Check whether it's **Private** and ask its manager about team or individual access. Joining a workspace alone doesn't open private workers.
* **Can't hire or change billing?** Check your workspace role. User Lite can't hire; billing is managed by Owners and Admins.

## Next steps
