# Research & Data Analyst

> Get your Research & Data Analyst delivering sourced briefs, competitor profiles and scheduled monitoring

The **Research & Data Analyst** turns a question into a sourced answer. It researches markets and competitors, pulls and cleans data, cites its sources and flags weak or conflicting evidence. It can also watch a topic for you and report on a schedule.

## Before you hire

Research works on the open web with no setup. Connect these under **Settings > Tools** when you want reports and data in your own tools:

| Tool | Why |
| - | - |
| [Google Sheets](https://docs.spinnable.ai/tools/google-sheets.md) | Datasets and tables |
| [Notion](https://docs.spinnable.ai/tools/notion.md) | Research briefs and libraries |
| [HubSpot](https://docs.spinnable.ai/tools/hubspot.md) or [Salesforce](https://docs.spinnable.ai/tools/salesforce.md) (optional) | Pull CRM data for analysis |
| [Gamma](https://docs.spinnable.ai/tools/gamma.md) (optional) | Visual reports as slides |

## Skills it starts with

| Skill | What it does | What it asks you at setup |
| - | - | - |
| **Research** | Market, industry and topic deep dives with cross-checked sources | Your company, the topics you care about, preferred sources and where to deliver |
| **Competitor Profiling** | Full profiles: product, pricing, positioning, strengths and gaps | Your product and positioning, your competitors and what matters most |
| **Data Extraction** | Pulls structured data from web pages, documents, spreadsheets and CRMs | Your main data sources and default output format |
| **Visual Report Creation** | Dashboards, slides or formatted text reports | Brand colors, format, recipients and logo |

## Your first week

**1. Day 1: give it your context**

> "We're \[COMPANY], selling \[PRODUCT] to \[CUSTOMER]. Our main competitors are \[NAMES]. I mostly need research on \[TOPICS]."

**2. Day 2: one competitor**

> "Build a competitor profile of \[COMPETITOR]. Cite every claim."

Check a few sources yourself. Tell your analyst which ones you trust and which to skip.

**3. Day 3: a research question**

> "What changed in \[MARKET] in the last 90 days? One page, with sources and a confidence level for each point."

**4. Day 4: data into a sheet**

> "Collect \[DATA, e.g. pricing pages of these 10 companies] into a Google Sheet and note any gaps."

**5. Day 5: put it on a schedule**

> "Every Monday at 8am, send me a brief on news about \[COMPETITORS AND TOPICS]. Only include what's new."

> [!TIP]
>
> Narrow questions get better answers. "Pricing changes at our top 5 competitors this quarter" beats "tell me about the market."

## Common pitfalls

* **Pages that block automated access.** Some sites can't be read. Your analyst says so instead of guessing. Share an export or a different source.
* **Too many topics in one schedule.** Split monitoring into separate scheduled tasks so each brief stays short.
